Vlorë is where Albania declared independence in 1912, and it's the gateway to the Riviera. A single full day takes in the historic centre, the Illyrian castle above the bay, the long seafront Lungomare, and — time allowing — the marine park offshore and the Llogara pass climbing behind the town.
Day 1
A day in Vlorë
Start at Independence Square and its monument, the Muradie mosque and the Museum of Independence, then climb to the Illyrian castle of Kanina for the view over the bay. Walk the Lungomare, take a boat to the Karaburun-Sazan marine park or out to the Zvërnec monastery on the Narta lagoon, and finish among the pines of the Llogara pass behind the coast.
