Sarandë & the Deep South

4 days Riviera South Beach lovers who want UNESCO ruins and island-hopping too.

Sarandë is the south's summer capital, looking across the water to Corfu. Four days gives you its great sights — UNESCO Butrint and the Blue Eye spring — plus the turquoise islets of Ksamil and the kind of boat day that ends on a beach with no road to it.

Day 1

Tirana to Sarandë

The long, scenic drive down to the coast. Settle in, then take the seafront promenade at golden hour for a first dinner by the Ionian.

Day 2

Butrint & the Blue Eye

The layered Greek-Roman-Venetian ruins of UNESCO Butrint between lagoon and sea, the cobalt Blue Eye spring, and back in town the old quarter of Onhezm, the Lëkurës castle above the bay and the monastery of the Forty Saints.

Day 3

Ksamil

A day on the turquoise islets of Ksamil — swim out to them or take a boat — with Mirror Beach and the seafood shacks by the water (the mussel festival lands at the end of May).

Day 4

Boat day & departure

Out to the bays you can only reach by water — Kakome and Krorëz — for a last swim before the road back north to Tirana.
