The roof of Albania, on the eastern border.
Mount Korab, at 2,764 m, is the highest peak of both Albania and North Macedonia — a remote massif on the eastern frontier in the Korab-Koritnik protected area, far from the busier Alps.
The climb
Korab is a long but non-technical ascent, usually begun from the village of Radomirë in the Dibër highlands. The annual mass summit hike each summer brings hundreds of Albanian and Macedonian walkers to the top together — a rare cross-border tradition.
Wild and empty
The surrounding highlands are among the least-developed in the country — alpine pasture, glacial cirques, shepherds' summer settlements and the Radomirë waterfalls. There is little infrastructure; this is terrain for prepared hikers and guides.
The highest, quietest and least-photographed of Albania's great peaks.
